Ambassadors for Christ
2 Corinthians 5:20
An Ambassador is "a minister of the highest rank employed by one prince or state, at the court of another, to manage the public concerns of his own prince or state, and representing the power and dignity of his sovereign."
As Ambassadors for Christ, we are:
- Ministers - who serve as Jesus served (Matt 20:25-28),knowing who we are, Whose we are and the authority we have (Jn 13:3)
- of the highest rank - part of God's family (1Jn 3:1), of royal blood (1Pet 2:9) and joint heirs with Jesus (Rom 8:17)
- serving one prince - we have only one Master (Matt 6:24) Who must have our whole heart.
- at the court of another - we are not at home (1Pet 2:11, Heb:11:13-16) When inside an embassy, you may as well be in the country the embassy represents. Remember that where we go, the Kingdom of God goes.
- managing the concerns of our prince - Jesus' concern is for people. As His Body on the earth, we have a job to do (2Cor:5:18)
- representing the sovereign's power and dignity - if we belong to Him, we are no longer miserable sinners. The Holy Spirit lives within us. The way we conduct ourselves should reflect the nature of Jesus.
When an ambassador speaks, he has the weight of his government behind him. When we speak, in line with the Word, we have the backing of the Godhead and heaven itself.
